Hospital History

Chernivtsi Emergency Hospital first opened its doors in January 1982 as City Clinical Hospital No. 1. The newly constructed nine-story building on Fastivska Street brought together specialized departments from across the city’s medical facilities.

The original structure consolidated key units, including neurosurgery, orthopedics and traumatology, hematology, surgery, and internal medicine, alongside a 24/7 trauma center.

This integration established a powerful, multidisciplinary medical hub designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of both the city and the region.

Development of Surgical and Emergency Services

A pivotal milestone in the hospital’s history was the creation of a specialized emergency response service. By integrating the expertise of surgeons, anesthesiologists, and diagnostic specialists, we successfully implemented the “Golden Hour” principle. This approach ensures that patients receive critical, life-saving medical intervention during the most vital window of time, maximizing the chances of a successful recovery.

Internal Medicine and Diagnostics

Departments and Diagnostics The hospital includes Internal Medicine, Hematology, Gastroenterology, and an Emergency Neurology Center. Our diagnostic complex provides Laboratories, X-ray, CT, Ultrasound, Endoscopy, and Functional Diagnostics.

Intensive Care The Intensive Care and Resuscitation units operate 24/7, providing specialized care for patients in critical condition.

Admissions and Trauma Centers

The Admissions Department examines and hospitalizes 80–100 patients daily. Our Adult and Pediatric Trauma Centers operate 24/7, treating an average of 12,000–15,000 patients annually.

Through these units, the hospital remains the key center for emergency and acute care in the region.

Clinical Base and Training

The hospital is a leading clinical site for Bukovinian State Medical University. It hosts departments for Surgery, Traumatology and Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, and Intensive Care.

Students, interns, and young specialists receive clinical training and hands-on experience in a multidisciplinary setting, focusing on patient management and practical medical skills.

Medical Capabilities and Technology

The hospital performs 5,000–6,000 surgeries annually, most of which are urgent. Our departments utilize minimally invasive technologies, including arthroscopy, joint replacement, endoscopic surgery, pacemaker implantation, and complex neurosurgical and orthopedic procedures.

Over the years, we have continuously modernized our operating suites, intensive care, and clinical units. Key developments include the establishment of an Emergency Neurology Center, the opening of a 24/7 Pediatric Trauma Center, and extensive equipment upgrades across all diagnostic and inpatient services.

TODAY

Chernivtsi Emergency Hospital remains the leading facility for emergency and specialized medical care in the region.

Our team of experienced specialists, modern clinical approaches, 24/7 operations, and multidisciplinary structure make the hospital a vital center that provides life-saving assistance to tens of thousands of patients every year.
